My lesbian sister came out at 18, tried a couple of males in her 20s, wasn't impressed, but also not horrified, and stuck to women ever since, 30 years later. From a long ago conversation with my sister, I rather think that my sister thinks of lesbianism as Sheila does.

However, my sister and I don't really talk much anymore she calls me transphobic.

So even political lesbians can be deluded by this cult. :(

I'll presume you never had a job working for a bunch of middle-class political lesbians purportedly devoted to empowering the world's women. I managed not to get fired because I found myself another job just in time. I was in their view a poor unevolved idiot straight woman who'd compounded her sin by going all the way and marrying a guy.

And it wasn't just me they had contempt for. They weren't so overly enamored with the third-world women they produced all those toolkit thingies for. They used to laugh at some of the letters they got from teeny little women's groups asking for help (all the manuals etc. etc. were freely provided via grants from all them progressive foundations). Me in my dumbness, I was indignant about that too.
